Peter Taylor’ s Calligraphics has an envied reputation for creating poems and gifts in calligraphy that clients and recipients adore.

While Peter and his calligraphy  business are based in Brisbane, Australia, works can be sent worldwide.

Or maybe you have a favourite text you would like to frame for yourself?

Whatever your idea, please contact us for a quotation.

Favourite gifts featuring calligraphy are poems and sayings, a single ornate or decorated initial letter with 23ct gold leaf illumination, wedding vows for anniversaries, prayers, decorated names of children  to celebrate a birth or life event, and letters to loved ones …but Peter also enjoys working on unusual projects. What would you like?

Peter will create the artwork to match your own taste and ideas, or he can offer suggestions, show samples and develop a design in consultation with you.

The simplest format is to write the words of a text in straight lines in elegant Italic calligraphy style using black ink that won’t fade. A price quotation will always be given, but the cost is often about $4 per line including parchment or quality watercolour paper and allowing for time spent finalising the layout.

Optional painted and decorated capitals, the use of 23ct gold leaf, leafy and floral trail borders and small stylised butterflies, birds and other simplified wildlife additions – a Peter Taylor specialty and trademark, painted with the aid of a magnifying glass – (…but not people, pets or flowers that must look realistic) will be charged according to complexity and time spent. Apart from use in presenting poems and texts, these features can also be combined for names and initials which, when framed, are popular for all ages.

Very short poems, verses, quotes and sayings can be treated simply, but provide scope for a greater degree of creativity with the background, letter design, and colour and layout of the words. For the best result, this non-traditional way of working usually requires some extra time to experiment. An often used quotation can make an appropriate corporate gift to someone who is leaving or retiring.

Top tip to see how much space a poem or text is likely to take up…

The Smallest comfortable size Peter can write elegantly is the same as that taken up by the words typed in Lucida Calligra or Lucida Calligraphy type-font at 17pt size. If a poem is really long, he can write it in calligraphy over several sides of paper and make it into a single section book.

Unless otherwise informed, all quotations are for cost for the work to be created for the purchaser’s personal use only. If an artwork is to be printed for commercial gain, a rights agreement will be drawn up by Peter’s agent and a different price negotiated.

Another idea for a gift for someone who likes calligraphy…

…a voucher for the recipient to have an hour or more of private tuition in a style of their choice at a mutually convenient time. Some options they can choose from are shown on the Calligraphy Classes page of this site.
